The Buckeye Book Fair is pleased to invite you to apply for a 2008 literacy grant. Grants of up to $750 will be awarded to Ohio public libraries, school libraries, and literacy programs for the enhancement of their book collections and for the promotion of reading. The funds that will be awarded are made possible by the success of the twentieth annual Buckeye Book Fair which was held in Wooster, Ohio, on November 3, 2007.

In evaluating grant applications to determine the recipients, the committee will consider the financial need of the applicant, the specific area of need the grant would address, and evidence of careful planning in preparing the grant project. Grants will not be awarded for printed materials mandated by state standards, such as sets of encyclopedias or workbooks; nor for the purchase of more than 10 copies of one title for classroom inclusion; nor for classroom speakers, consultants, or equipment. No more than 15 percent of the amount requested can be for non-printed materials (software, posters, puppet kits, book bags, etc.)

Applications are open to Ohio literacy programs, Ohio community libraries, and Ohio elementary and secondary schools both public and private. Only one school per public school district may be awarded a grant. Specialized and academic libraries are not eligible. Your application must be typed or completed by word processor using at least an eight-point typeface. Applications must be signed by the school superintendent or building principal, library director, or literacy program director. And please, tailor your grant submission to the specific requests of our application. The grant committee reserves the right to award less than the full amount requested.

The enclosed application must be postmarked no later than August 31, 2008 and sent to: Buckeye Book Fair, Grant Application, 205 West Liberty Street, Wooster, OH 44691. Winners will be notified by telephone no later than October 20th. The grants will be presented in Wooster in conjunction with the November 1, 2008, Buckeye Book Fair.

In the event that the grant has not been fully executed within the calendar year following the grant distribution, we agree to provide the Buckeye Book Fair with an interim report.
